MrBeast, who debuted his game show Beast Games on Prime Video last week, has commented on the controversies surrounding the alleged hospitalizations behind the scenes.
The 26-year-old YouTuber is being sued alongside Amazon Prime for several accusations from employees who claim he and the streaming platform promoted poor working conditions.
The first two episodes of the game show were released on December 19 on Prime Video, and the program was said to have cost around $100 million to produce. But according to a report from The New York Times, several anonymous participants stated they suffered a series of injuries during filming.
The newspaper also reported that there were claims of “several hospitalizations,” and sources who spoke with the outlet claimed to have witnessed people vomiting and fainting. Amid the controversy, viewers questioned how the contestants could fall from 3 meters without getting hurt.
In a live stream with influencer Jynxzi, MrBeast explained: “We worked with the same stunt team that does all the big action movies and that kind of thing, and basically, that tower falls onto 1.5 meters of foam.”
“There was actually a higher chance of you drowning in the foam than getting hurt, because the entire top of the tower — you can’t tell because of how we painted it — is made of very thick foam,” he added.
MrBeast also emphasized that they conducted “5,000 fall tests” before filming to ensure no one got hurt during the challenges. “Under the foam, there’s also a ‘crash pad,’ which we didn’t even need.”
